For the fourth straight year, the symphony of sounds at Equip Exposition will include puppy barks and joyful squeals when the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI) partners with the Kentucky Humane Society for the Lucky’s Mutt Madness annual national adoption event.

It will take place in Freedom Hall at the Kentucky Exposition Center on Thursday, Oct. 20, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.“Lucky’s Mutt Madness is a win-win because it connects those who love your yard the most — the family dog — with the contractors, manufacturers, and landscapers who make outdoor living possible,” said Kris Kiser, President and CEO of the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI) and President of the TurfMutt Foundation.

“Since thousands of our show attendees drive to Equip Exposition, it’s possible for them to take home a new furry friend that they meet at our event.” The pet adoption event honors Lucky the TurfMutt, Kiser’s rescue dog who “pawed it forward” for 10 years with the TurfMutt program.

Seventy-million children, teachers, and families used the TurfMutt youth curriculum aimed at kids in grades K-8. The program teaches them and their families about the value of caring for our living landscapes and the benefits they offer. After Lucky passed away in 2019, the TurfMutt Foundation was established to carry on his life’s work of “saving the planet one yard at a time” by encouraging outdoor learning experiences, stewardship of our green spaces and care for living landscapes for the benefit of all. The annual dog adoption event is one of the Foundation’s initiatives.

At the last Lucky’s Mutt Madness, 27 dogs were available for adoption, including an adorable mixed breed puppy named Mulligan (a.k.a. Mully). Kiser adopted Mulligan, and she has been growing into Lucky’s cape while training to become the new face for TurfMutt. “Mutt Mulligan” was one of 14 dogs who found their fur-ever homes at Lucky’s Mutt Madness 2019.
